DESCRIPTION
The Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree program is a non certification program
with a concentration in Instructional Technology at this time. This degree
program does not lead to elementary or secondary teacher certification, school
counselor certification or administrator certification. The program is organized
around the following set of objectives:
- To strengthen and enrich programs in concentrated area of study.
- To provide graduate studies for students whose research and career goals depend on
further education.
- To extend students' abilities to function effectively in research and policy
in this concentration.
- To enhance students' expertise in evaluating, analyzing, and synthesizing
current trends in education.
ADMISSION STANDARDS
Entrance Exam Required - NO EXCEPTIONS!
Unconditional Admission
- Applicants must have a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited
four-year institution. Students with a baccalaureate degree from an
unaccredited or otherwise accredited institution should see Unaccredited or
Otherwise Accredited Student Admission.
- Applicants must achieve a score of 33 or higher on the MAT or a score of 850
or higher on the GRE (verbal & quantitative), or a 450 on the GMAT.
- Applicants must have an overall grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Conditional Admission
- Students not satisfying the unconditional admission requirements may be
conditionally admitted to the program pending satisfactory completion of the
first 6 semester hours with the 3.0 GPA. Students with a baccalaureate
degree from an unaccredited or otherwise accredited institution should see
Unaccredited or Otherwise Accredited Student Admission.
- Students not satisfying conditional admission requirements will be
dropped from the program for one calendar year at which time the student must petition for readmission.
CURRICULUM
All courses offer three semester hours credit unless otherwise specified.
TRANSFER CREDIT
A maximum of four courses (12 semester hours) taken at another regionally
accredited institution each with a ‘“B” grade or better may be applied toward
the degree. These courses must be comparable in catalog description to Troy
State University courses in the M.Ed. degree program and must be approved by
appropriate Department Chair and Dean.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO CANDIDACY
- Students must have a 3.0 GPA on all work completed to be admitted to
candidacy. If the student makes a "D" or "F" in a core course, the course
must be retaken. If the student makes a "D" or "F" in an elective course,
the course may be retaken or another elective taken in its place.
- Unconditionally admitted graduate students may apply for admission to
candidacy after completing 6 semester graduate hours and requirements as
outlined for the specific degree program.
- Conditionally admitted graduate students may apply for candidacy after
completing 12 semester graduate hours and requirements as outlined for the
specific degree program.
